Background
Born as Eckardt Oehlenschlger in the city-state of Hundraus, Aerah Empire in 1877, Oehlenschlger-Weindorf's father died when he was a young boy leading his mother to marry a then Oberleutnant in the Aerah Army, Torben Weindorf. Oehlenschlger-Weindorf's stepfather, a veteran of the Buraccan Campaign where he had been mentioned in dispatches to the Großkommandeur, had a profound influence on the young man's development and encouraged him to enlist in the Army.
Torben Weindorf saw that his stepson entered service as a cadet in the 8th Heavy Field Battalion upon joining the Army so as to prevent him being sent off to active service in the Buraccan Front as a war volunteer, but rather than join his stepfather's old unit, Oehlenschlger-Weindorf was accepted into the Infantry cadet institute at Boden for officer's training.
Having passed through officer training school with "good effort", the young Oehlenschlger-Weindorf was commissioned as a lieutenant in the 8th Heavy Field Battalion on November 3rd, 1899.
Accepted into the Imperial Kriegsschule in Nimskraus, he graduated and was appointed to the general staff with the rank of Oberleutnant in 1902 before serving in the 27th infantry brigade, the 3rd mountain brigade and the 12th infantry division before being promoted to Hauptmann in 1904.
In 1905 he was formally adopted by his stepfather and changed his name to Oehlenschlger-Weindorf, which allowed him to succeed to his father's noble title, "Von Spiegelmann". Torben Weindorf transferred his noble title and coat of arms to his son on October 28, 1905, and the same year the newly ennobled young Oehlenschlger-Weindorf married Cecilia Hauser in Hikenwlym with whom he was to have a son and daughter.
